Year 6 math, drawing patterns using a compass

Students learnt how to use a compass by creating a design using the same radius and repeating a pattern around the circle. Materials needed: compass, pencil, ruler, skinny markers, colored pencils, paper. Vocabulary learnt: circle, circumference, compass, intersection, radius, pattern, diameter.

Students practiced using a compass by creating a radial design. We discussed vocabulary words that students should know and how to use the compass safely. With practise, they learnt how to use a compass to create a pattern of circles. The students can explain how to use a repeating pattern to create a radial design. Students loved and enjoyed drawing patterns using a circle
